[evolution of a blog]

[the journey continues]

Today I’m proud to unveil an entirely new look and new functionality for my site, thanks to social media maven Lori Randall of Social Media Design.

We interrupt this blog for a brief UNPAID commercial announcement: Lori’s blog, Lori on Twitter, Lori on Facebook, Lori on LinkedIn. Call her.

I met Lori through a site called Third Tribe, but got to know her on Twitter. I loved her persona, her warmth and energy, and especially her skills and enthusiasm for social media. When I contacted her about revamping my site, she promised me something I couldn’t resist: a great-looking site that would have functionality based on the latest best practices in blogs yet still be easy for me to understand and maintain. She said she would give me the equivalent of a nice car I could drive right off the lot. I loved that metaphor, and I’m happy to say she delivered.

My first site was lovingly and carefully put together over several months for free by a dear friend. She gave me a treasured gift—an online hub for my business. Up to that point, I was on Twitter and LinkedIn but I had no focus and nowhere to point people who wanted to learn more about me or understand my style. She set everything up and walked me through the basics of owning a website and using WordPress, and then I was on my own.

I did fine for a while, but I realized that there was much more my site could be doing for my business. These are the concerns I brought to Lori:

My hope was that when I was done, I would have something I could proudly show to clients and colleagues, and also would have gained more expertise in social media. They say that experience is the best teacher, but I think a good consultant ranks right up there, too. Thanks to Lori, my online presence has a new lease on life.

I bet many of you are curious about the actual process and the bells and whistles that Lori added to the site. If so, look for a future blog post with details about the makeover.

And if you aren’t a subscriber to this blog, you can get an RSS feed in your reader or have it sent to your email box. Or both! Thanks for being there, and I hope to hear from you soon about what you think of the new site.

I’m so excited that you asked me to do your redesign, Claire!! Now people can see examples of your work (psst! See Claire’s “Portfolio” Everybody!) and Testimonials, as well as your LinkedIn info, all in one place. Enjoy!! 😀 It’s been such a pleasure getting to know you and working with you!!

Lori, I realize that I should have used your married name: Lori Randall Stradtman! How disrespectful of me. I will try to remember that in the future. I am so happy today – just basking in the new functionality and look. And it has given Lauren some great ideas about my avatar. (Is that the right word for my artsy profile pic replacement??)
